DORSEY LEE HOPE

Dorsey Lee Hope entered into eternal rest on November 19, 2021, with his family by his side. Dorsey was born on January 14, 1940, to the late Belvert and Annie Hope of Tasley, Virginia. He was predeceased by two sisters, Leila Mae Blake and Doretha Pringle. He received his education in Accomack County Public Schools. After graduating, Dorsey became a barber and also worked for Edgar Thomas and C.C. Humbles Funeral Homes.

September 5, 1964, Dorsey married Evelyn Wynn, his soul mate of 57 years. From this union were four children: Lynette Hope-Smith, Terrell Hope, Queron Hope, and Trevor Hope. After their marriage, Dorsey and Evelyn migrated to Philadelphia in 1967. He gained employment with United Container, as a dye-cut operator, where he worked until he retired in 2005. After retirement, he then decided to move back to Virginia; Still being ambitious, Dorsey assisted Edgar Wharton and later Jimmie Williams at Williams and Wharton Funeral Home. He worked there until his health began to fail in 2019.

Dorsey enjoyed life. Anyone that knew him loved him. His infectious smile and personality attracted many people…most lasting a lifetime. He was also a member of Prudence Mason Lodge out of Philadelphia, PA. Dorsey also had a special bond with the Lord. He accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Accomac, Virginia. After moving to Philadelphia he joined Morris Chapel Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Joseph Hinton. Dorsey became a trustee, which continued over 35 years under the leadership of Reverend Boyd Rogers and Reverend Vernon Thompson. The relationship he had with the Lord was truly first in his life. He was determined to serve in the Army of the Lord.

After returning to Virginia, Dorsey then joined Gospel Temple Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Louis Brimm, and currently led by Reverend Purcell Widgeons. Dorsey served as a Trustee and later became the Chairman of the Deacons and Trustees. He had a special bond with officers Ed Jacobs and Vincent Turner. He brought his knowledge and expertise of these positions and the importance of them to kingdom build.

Second in life, was his family. The most important role to him was “Pop-Pop”. He made sure that each grandchild and great grandchild knew the love he had for them individually and collectively. Family gatherings were best…so many memories we will hold.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 57 years.
