HERMON VINCENT ROGERS

HERMON VINCENT ROGERS, the beloved son of the late William Dixon and Mary Lois Giddins Rogers was born in Painter, Virginia on August 8, 1949. It was God’s desire, in His Holy Wisdom, that this dear life should end on Sunday morning May 1, 2011in Salisbury, Maryland. He was reared in the area of his birth and was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He graduated in the class of 1969. Hermon was a member of the varsity football team. He worked all of his adult life in the poultry industry until his health started to fail. Hermon joined the Metompkin Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robert Hunt. “Heavy D”, as he was called by his family and friends, enjoyed his life by spending time with family and friends. He had a warm, caring, funny and loving personality and a great desire to live. He was a people person, loved life and cherished every moment that he spent with his family and friends. Hermon was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Laura Mae and Jeanette Rogers, and two brothers John William and Elsworth Rogers. Left to hold dear the memory of Hermon “Heavy D” are: two sisters Ethel (Purnell) Sturgis and Dapher Rogers both of Virginia, three brothers, Dallas of North Carolina, Phillip and Charlie Rogers of Virginia, one aunt Fannie Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia, one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, special cousins, James and Kerry Smith and a host of other relatives and friends.
