VERNICE M. CLARK

VERNICE MARGARITE CLARK was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 16, 1915 to the late John and Betsie Turner of Accomack, Virginia. On Sunday, April 6, 2014, Vernice quietly departed this life at home in Baltimore, Maryland.

She received her academic education in the Baltimore Public School System and religious education at the Unity United Church (now Unity United Methodist Church) under the tutelage of Rev. Levi Miller, Sr. Her religious background was the cornerstone of her life as she often sang hymns delighting others as well as herself.

Vernice joined the Women's Army Corps during World War II, and received an education in the medical field as a nurse's assistant. After her service in the army, she attended sewing school, becoming a seamstress and making clothes.

In 1948, Vernice married the late Edward D. Clark, Sr. and from this union, they reared five children: Lavern, Edward, Jr., Stanford, Billy and Clifford. She loved her children dearly. She supported and helped them, and was known for babysitting and potty training.

Vernice was employed at Provident Hospital, from which she retired in 1987.

She loved sewing, singing hymns, and caring for others - especially children, the elderly, and animals. She attended Levindale Adult Day Care and started the day saying she's going to take care of the old people and singing her hymns. One special hymn was 'One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus.' Toward her departure, she would say, "Come get me Lord, I'm ready."

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Tony and Tesha.

Vernice leaves to mourn: one son, Edward D. Clark, Jr; two daughters-in-law, Jacqueline Clark and Vanessa Clark; grandchildren, Andrea, Marshall, Kimberly, Jarred, Tiffany, Shanelle; great grandchildren, Autumn, Marshall III, Kristol, Clarence III, Jawaun, Isaiah; and one great-great grandchild, Milan.
