MILDRED CHISUM

Mildred Virginia Chisum was born on July 8, 1953 and took her last breath on May 9, 2020 at 12:55 AM. She was known to family and friends as Mickie and received her education in the Accomack County public school system. She graduated from Arcadia High School in Oak Hall, VA and joined St. Mark Methodist Church in New Church, VA at an early age. Later in her life Mickie started attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Painter, VA. She was a hard and dependable worker who completed 44 years at Perdue Farms and at the age of 62 she decided it was time to say good bye and retired. She loved being at home and eating out.

Mickie was always ready to help no matter what the task was. She would put on her apron, roll up her sleeves and say “Goose, Let’s get busy”. She was always there to help her long time friend and beautician, Loopey and was referred to as her right and left hand. After being retired, for a while “Mick” went to work for the Head Start program in Accomac, VA. She loved the job and enjoyed working with the kids. She always had a joke or saying that would have you laughing. One of her favorite sayings was, “Is it me you looking for”.

Mickie leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: one daughter, Sheree Chisum of Painter, VA, and one son, Shawn Johnson of New Mexico; three sisters, Gloria Taylor of Sicklerville, NJ, Ethel (Cornelius) Thornton of Pocomoke City, MD, Lela Taylor of New Church, VA; four brothers: John Taylor of Pennsuken, NJ, William Taylor of Princess Anne, MD, Michael (Joyce) Taylor, Sidney (Tammy) Taylor of New Church, VA; five grandsons: Markel and Darrin Chisum of Painter, VA, and Elijah, Ethan and Xzavier Johnson of New Mexico. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

Mickie was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Armstrong, and father William Armstrong, four brothers: Curtis, Grover, Leroy and Theodore; and three sisters, Virginia, Doris and Sadie.
