ONEITA M. CHANDLER

ONEITA M. CHANDLER, daughter of the late Charles Bagwell and Viola Bagwell, was born April 5, 1929 in Accomac, VA. She departed this life on January 3, 2018 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA.

She was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and at an early age she confessed to Christ and became a lifelong and very active member of Bethel AME Church in Onancock, VA. She served as a steward, usher, choir member and laywoman.

In 1948, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Claude Sylvester Chandler, Sr. and their union was blessed with one son. They relocated to Philadelphia, PA in the early 1970’s and during this time she was employed in the garment industry for several years.

Upon her return to Onancock, she enjoyed working in her yard, assisting others with domestic work and being an active participant with church activities.

Oneita was known for being very meticulous and always willing to voice her opinion in any situation. She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Claude S. Chandler, Jr of Philadelphia, PA; two grandchildren, Claude L. Chandler of Philadelphia, and Lynette C. Yeich and husband Daniel Yeich of Lansdowne, PA and 1 great-grandchild, Logan Yeich. She also leaves behind 3 sisters; Gladys Gunter, Betty Collins and Arnetta Custis as well as 2 brothers; William Bagwell, Donald Bagwell and 2 sisters-in-laws, Delores Bagwell and Alberta Bagwell, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
