SEVERN T. LOFTLAND, JR.

Severn Thomas Lofland, Jr., the beloved son of the late Severn Thomas Lofland, Sr. and Eva Jane Mears Lofland, departed this life on August 5, 2017 at his residence in Newport News, VA. Severn was born January 28, 1944 in Accomack County. He received his education in the Accomack County Public School system and graduated from Mary Nottingham Smith High in 1962.

Severn entered into the United States Army and served his country for three years. He later was employed at Northrop Grumman, better known as the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock for 42 years. Severn loved his music and was known around town in the Tidewater area by the name of “DJ Loff.” He also worked on cars which included mechanical work and auto body refinishing. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was quite a dresser. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Severn was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Harry S. Foster, Post 67. He was preceded in death by his sister Pansy Logan.

He leaves to treasure his memories, a daughter, Tracey White of Saginaw, Michigan, a son, Sean Lofland, Sr. (Kiah) of Marietta, GA, brothers, Charles Lofland (Bonita) of Delran, New Jersey, Harold Mears (Betty) of Charlottesville, VA; sisters Nancy Harmon (Earl) and Doretha Needam of Pungoteague, VA, brother-in-law, Ralph Logan, of Fredericksburg, VA; ten grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a god-son, a stepson and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family, close personal friends and caregivers Brenda, Nancy and DJ Flexx.
